Pakistan’s Netflix version to be launched in six months
- Chaudhry was of the view that the OTT has a lot of scope in Pakistan due to a huge number of smartphone users.
Pakistan’s upcoming first over-the-top (OTT) TV, which is being called the Pakistani version of Netflix will be launched in the next six months, informed Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.
“We are expected to launch it in the next six months,” said Chaudhry, while talking about the recently announced platform, quoted Arab News.
“Basically this OTT (Over The Top) service has two parts. One is the technology part and the other content part,” he said while informing the government has already completed the technology part, which includes data compression and server with the help of local companies.
“The second part is content. We will bring together both technology companies and content companies on one platform and will ask them to start the TV,” added Chaudhry, which will happen as soon as the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) complete its guidelines.
In a country where platforms such as Netflix is very popular particularly among its tech savvy younger generation, Chaudhry was of the view that the OTT has a lot of scope in Pakistan due to a huge number of smartphone users.
Similarly, Ministry for Science and Technology launched a mobile app to make it easier for citizens to get real-time information about the different phases of the moon.
