KARACHI: A leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Capt Safdar (Retd) was released on bail by a court here on Monday hours after his arrest in the Quaid's mausoleum sanctity case.

Safdar, who is the husband of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, was granted bail against surety bonds of Rs100,000. An FIR had been registered against Safdar and others at the Brigade Police Station for allegedly violating provisions of the Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Protection and Maintenance Act and that of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Extra contingents of police were deployed around the City Courts when the PML-N leader was brought there. Lawyers and workers belonging to the PML-N and the PTI generated some chaos in the court room by raising slogans against each other. In order to restore normalcy, the court ordered lawyers of both sides to take their workers out of the court room so that hearing in the bail application could be started.
