ISLAMABAD: The federal government has again stated that the provincial government of Sindh will be directly responsible for any gas shortage in Karachi in winter.

In a tweet, Omar Ayub, minister for energy stated, "Sindh Government has still not given right of way permission for the 17 kms SSGC pipeline despite repeated letter, meetings with the officials over a period of 1.5 years. Sindh Gov will be directly responsible for any gas shortage in Karachi."

Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Petroleum Division (SAPM) Nadeem Babar had said that Sindh might face a gas shortfall of over 400MMCFD during the upcoming winter season.

He said that consumers were likely to face an acute shortage of gas during the winter as the Sui Southern Gas Company did not have enough gas reserves to meet the consumers' demand.

He maintained that the gas crisis would further worsen in December and January in the province.

The advisor said they could overcome the gas crisis, if the Sindh government gave permission to lay a new pipeline in the province.

On Monday, Minister for Energy and the SAPM inaugurated Total PARCO Green Service Station at F-6 Markaz. Nadeem Babar said that Euro-V standard petrol would be available at the petrol station, which would help to reduce air pollution.

He said the PTI government had target to enhance green energy from two percent to 20 percent by 2025.
