India’s COVID-19 cases toll can reach 2.6 million a month if the rules in place to check the spread of the disease are relaxed, experts waned.

They issued aforementioned warning, while addressing to media over India’s coronavirus situation on Sunday.

The government-appointed COVID-19 India National Supermodel Committee said that the country has crossed coronavirus cases peak and forecasted that the spread of the dieses can be bought under control by early next year, if rules in place are followed strictly.

The committee emphasised that anti-coronavirus measures must continue, “If protocols are followed, the pandemic can be controlled by early next year with minimal active infections by February’s end.”

They predicted that the number of COVID-19 infections can go as high as 10.6 million in India by the time the pandemic ends.

They are tasked to highlight the likely trajectory of the pandemic in India.

Currently, India is the world’s second-worst infected country after the United Stated, with 55,722 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking its tally to more than 7.5 million cases, the federal health ministry said.

If current trends hold, India will overtake the infection tally of the US early next month.

The country is witnessing a surge in cases since June but the virus spread appears to have slowed down since mid-September when daily infections hit a record of 97,894.

Globally, infections are on the rise, with several countries entering a third wave of the pandemic.
