Human rights violations in IIOJ&K: Hurriyat leaders stage protest demonstration
ISLAMABAD: Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and demanded release of political prisoners.
The Chairperson of Peace and Culture Organization and a Hurriyat leader, Mushaal Yasin Malik, wife of jailed Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, led the protest demonstration.
The protesters marched from China Chowk to the National Press Club and chanted slogans against the continued siege of Kashmiris and other Indian brutalities in the occupied Kashmir.
The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans such as “Kashmir will resist and Kashmir will exist”, “implementation of the UN resolution only solution to Jammu Kashmir dispute”, and “India should not be allowed to change demography through the barrel of the gun”.
A heavy contingent of police was deployed on the occasion in order to avert any untoward incident. Protesters said that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir had been facing the worst kind of difficulties since August 5 due to continued siege, curfew and restrictions. Kashmiris had no contact with the rest of the world due to complete media and communication blackout, they said.
They urged the international community to take notice of Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and impress upon New Delhi to stop night raids and arrests of Hurriyat leaders and activists.
They appealed to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the world powers to pressure India to end the massive human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
