The Ministry of Commerce has established the Women Economic Empowerment Group (WEE), announced Adviser to Prime Minister of Pakistan for Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood on Tuesday.

“It is my pleasure to announce the establishment of WEE – Women Economic Empowerment Group – by MOC and National E-Commerce Council (NeCC),” said Razak in a statement.

The group would remove barriers and enhance women’s participation in business activities, added Dawood.

“Our government has adopted a number of significant measures to ensure economic empowerment of women and, through creation of WEE under the umbrella of NeCC, we aim to reduce gender disparity across trade and commerce,” he added.

Earlier, Dawood has urged women entrepreneurs to avail incentives provide by the government in order to encourage an ‘all-inclusive’ economic development.

“Women entrepreneurship is essential for all-inclusive economic development and our government is promoting this culture through various interventions including access to finance,” said Dawood, in a statement.

The advisor said that female entrepreneurs should approach the central bank for their business financing needs, as SBP has a scheme specifically for this purpose. “We hope our women will avail this opportunity and become entrepreneurs in various sectors of our economy,” added Dawood.
