ISLAMABAD: The head of Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, will arrive here tomorrow (Monday) to hold talks with both civil and military leadership on advancing the Afghan peace process and strengthening bilateral ties.

Official sources said that Abdullah would visit Pakistan on September 28 on the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan as part of the peace efforts in Afghanistan as well as to deliberate on ways and means for strengthening bilateral relations.

During his three-day visit to Pakistan, they said that Abdullah would meet Prime Minister Imran Khan, political leaders of various parties and the Chief of the Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, as well as hold interaction with think tanks.

The high-level visit by the top Afghan leaders comes at a time when efforts are underway to evolve a consensus among Afghan government and different warring groups including Taliban for a future political setup in Afghanistan by ending the decades' old conflict.

The long-pending visit is also taking place following the commencement of intra-Afghan negotiations in Doha on September 12, which was made possible due to the constructive role of Pakistan.

Prior to the start of the intra-Afghan peace talks in Qatar, the Taliban Political Commission's delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar visited Pakistan on August 25, 2020, and held talks with civil and military leadership on advancing the peace process.
