Pakistan Inducted into Global Champions for Nature by World Economic Forum

In recognition of the environmentally-conscious policies enacted by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan has been inducted into the Global Champions for Nature community by the World Economic Forum.

In a statement yesterday by the international forum, Pakistan will now be part of “a community of leaders disrupting business-as-usual to lead the way to a nature-positive global economy and halt nature loss by 2030”. Malik Amin Aslam, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, announced the development on Twitter, adding that Pakistan is now part of a multilateral community, in recognition of the government’s various initiatives to combat climate hazards - with the World Economic Forum recognising Prime Minister Imran Khan’s strategy to combat climate change as a “win-win” earlier this year.

According to the official letter of recognition shared by the minister, it stated that “your country’s holistic approach to fighting climate change, nature degradation, and loss of livelihoods holds lessons for us all”. In August, over a million volunteers of the Prime Minister “Tiger Force” (a collection of social-service volunteers), were part of the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Initiative, with a green stimulus package being announced to promote plantation, set up nurseries and natural forests, to create jobs and restore the natural ecosystem in the process.
