Maryam assails political leaders for discussing constitutional matters with the military leadership
- She said matters concerning Pakistan should not be discussed at GHQ, but in Parliament.
- PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal has denied reports of any one-on-one meeting with the army chief.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Vice- President Maryam Nawaz has lambasted political leaders for discussing matters pertaining to Pakistan at the General Headquarters (GHQ).
Speaking to the media following her appearance before the Islamabad High Court, Maryam said that she is not aware of a dinner being hosted for opposition leaders at the headquarters of the Pakistan Army.
But, Maryam added, she heard about the meeting which was held to discuss the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) issue. She further said that matters concerning Pakistan should not be discussed at GHQ, but in the Parliament.
She added that she is not aware of whether former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif knew, but the political leaders should not have attended the meeting. "Since GB is a political issue, it should be discussed in the Parliament," she said.
Meanwhile, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal has denied reports of any one-on-one meeting with army leadership.
On Monday, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed had shared that in a meeting, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and head of the Inter-Services Intelligence Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed had asked key opposition figures not to involve the military into political issues.
He said the COAS had a meeting with over 15 opposition figures including Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Jamaat-e-Islami's Sirajul Haq and others.
The railways minister also said that Iqbal and Khawaja Asif even held one-on-one meetings with the army chief.
