In the wake of heavy showers in Sindh on Thursday, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan contacted Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and assured him that the federal government will provide whatever relief they require.

In a tweet, Minister for Planning Asad Umar said that the PM contacted the Sindh chief minister and assured him that they will be provided whatever help they require. The premier told Shah that any help will be provided on an 'emergency basis'.

For the past three days, Karachi has been receiving heavy showers, causing urban flooding in several areas. On Thursday, the situation got worse as the port city received rain the whole day.

Power was suspended in several areas for more than 10 hours. The urban flooding led to the closure of KPT underpass in Clifton as well as the Punjab Colony, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad and Ghareebabad underpasses.

Due to the devastating situation, the Sindh government has announced a public holiday today. A statement issued said all government, semi-government and private institutions except essential services will remain closed only in Karachi on Friday.
