Citizens witnessed an extreme situation after the current spell of monsoon rains flooded streets and crippled normal life in the megapolis. Videos from different city areas show urban flooding and inundated thoroughfares, while vehicles could be seen submerged in rainwater. Heavy downpour continued for hours wreaking havoc in the metropolis as the city administration failed to drain out water from the streets. In view of the situation, the Sindh government has declared rain emergency in the province.

The most affected areas include Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Shah Faisal Colony, DHA, Mehmoodabad, Akhtar Colony, Clifton, Karsaz, Saddar, Orangi Town and Nazimabad. According to data from the Met department, the highest amount of rainfall, 83mm was recorded at Saddar, 72mm at Gulshan-i-Hadeed while Nazimabad recorded 51.6mm. Similarly, 37mm rain was recorded in North Karachi, Surjani Town 25.6mm, Landhi 11.5mm, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Faisal 11mm, Jinnah Terminal 9.6mm while University Road received 8.8mm of rainfall.
