Mari Petroleum discovers gas in Sindh

Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has made a gas discovery at its exploratory well in Sindh.

MPCL the Operator of Mari Development & Production Lease (Mari D&PL) with 100 percent working interest, has made the latest discovery at its exploratory well Iqbal-1, drilled in Mari D&PL Area, located in Daharki, District Ghotki, Sindh.

Iqbal-1 well was spud-in on July 11, 2020 and successfully drilled down to the depth of 1,250 meters into Sui Main Limestone Formation. The well was tested at the rate of 3.127 MMSCFD of gas and 79 BPD of water through choke size 40/64” at well head flowing pressure (WHFP) of 396 Psi from Sui Upper Limestone and Ghazij Formations.

It is highlighted that this is the 6th consecutive discovery in Mari D&P Lease Area, based on 1,079 sq.km carpet 3D seismic survey of the area in 2015, which was followed by an extensive drilling program.

It is further highlighted that Ghazij Formation has been tested for the very first time in Mari D&PL area. The company said that the discovery has opened a new avenue (horizon) for future exploratory efforts to enhance the hydrocarbon reserves base of MPCL and the Country
