ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Tuesday criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government performance in its two years in power, and said the economy of the country was worst in history, even as democracy and human rights were suffering.
Shortly after a press conference by the Cabinet in which it highlighted the govt's achievements over the past two years, Bilawal said in his tweet, "2 years in power & @ImranKhan PTI has given us the worst economy in our country's history, foreign policy failures from Kashmir to Saudi, democracy & human rights suffering, unemployment at an all time high, transparency international has said corruption is higher than before."
He said unemployment was at an all-time high.
Later addressing a joint news conference, PPP information secretary Nafisa Shah and Maula Bux Chandio criticised the PTI government for increasing inflation and national debt.
Nafisa said, "I challenge the PTI to tell the people how much was one child indebted [to the IMF] when it came into power, and how much is one child indebted now."
She claimed that the PTI government had borrowed Rs10 trillion in two years.
She said the PTI government had dropped a 'bomb of inflation' on the people.
The price of oil in our government was 40 percent less than it is today.
"There has been a 102 percent increase in wheat prices from when we were in government and 70-80 percent increase in sugar prices."
She said the tsunami of inflation had broken the people's backs.
Criticising the government for 'giving in' to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), she said that after the, "PTI-IMF government, now the PTI-IMF-FATF government would rule [over people]".
She added that they would enact laws, which would force businesses to shutdown.
She also criticised the government for what she termed the "destruction of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)".
"The damage they have caused to the PIA, we repeatedly say, it counts as treason. They have caused Rs90-100bn loss to the PIA so far, and it was [because of] one statement that the minister made in the National Assembly. We have not been told till date that who those pilots were," she added.
Maula Bux Chandio said Prime Minister Imran Khan really told the truth and destroyed the country "by handing it over to a tsunami".
He said Imran Khan called the Taliban 'martyrs' and told the truth.
He said the day of reckoning of the PTI government was near. Chandio said flour, sugar and governance crises had risen in the Punjab, asking, is this the prosperous Punjab of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi?
