British Airways resumes flight operations to Pakistan

(Karachi) British Airways has resumed flight operations to Pakistan after decline in coronavirus cases in the country.

The airline said direct flights would take off three times a week between London’s Heathrow Airport and Islamabad International Airport. British Airways flight BA-261 reached Islamabad from London on Friday. Special arrangements were made for the arrival of British Airways flight at Islamabad Airport while the passengers were subjected to health counter screening and medical examination.

Earlier in a tweet, the UK High Commission wished everyone on board a great flight. "Welcoming back @British_Airways to Pakistan! Keeping the [UK] and [Pakistan] — and our people — connected," it added.

British Airways direct flights to Pakistan resumed in June 2019 after a 10-year break. The carrier first flew to Islamabad in 1976. In September 2008, the airline had suspended operation in Pakistan following a suicide bombing at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, killing at least 60 people and wounding more than 260.
