KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 132,634 tonnes of cargo comprising 84,054 tonnes of import cargo and 48,580 tonnes of export cargo including 6,426 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 84,054 tonnes comprised of 45,759 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,195 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 31,100 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 48,580 tonnes comprised of 35,849 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,531 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 6,426 containers comprising of 3,434 containers of import and 2,992 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 759 of 20's and 1,053 of 40's loaded while 09 of 20's and 280 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 871 of 20's and 921 of 40's loaded containers while 27 of 20's and 126 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely Ningbo Express, DS Cougar and Sirocco carrying containers, oil tanker and fertilizer respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were two vessels carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 159,488 tonnes comprising of 129,126 tonnes of import cargo and 30,362 tonnes of export cargo including 4,398 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 129,126 tonnes includes 5,270 tonnes of furnace oil; 54,010 tonnes of coal; 4,000 tonnes of palm oil; 588 tonnes of project cargo; 3,000 tonnes of canola; 9,058 tonnes of chemical and 53,200 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 30,362 tonnes includes 30,362 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 4,398 containers comprising of 2,800 containers import and 1,598 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were two ships namely Chemroad Sakura and Bora carrying chemical and canola respectively sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while three more ships namely MSC Tomoko, Shinano and SBI Achilles carrying containers and coal respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, chemical, canola, project cargo, furnace oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as nine vessels viz. JBO Sapphire, New Unity, African Baza, Kamari, Gas Zeus, Tomson Gas, Sovereign, Al-Soor-II and Four Sky carrying coal, cement, LPG, gasoline and gas oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were two ships viz. New Unity and Gas Pacu carrying coal and LPG respectively expected to take berths at Pakistan International Bulk Terminal and SSGC LPG Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There was one ship namely Gas Pacu carrying LPG due to arrive on Wednesday.

There are three ships namely MOL Graneur, CMA CGM Medra and Sphene carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
