KARACHI: In the Board Meeting held today, Saquib Shirazi, CEO of Atlas Honda was appointed Chairman and Muhammad Aurangzeb, President of Habib Bank Limited, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Business Council (PBC).

Saquib replaced Syed Yawar Ali who had been Chairman PBC for the previous eighteen months. Ehsan Malik, CEO PBC said: "PBC is a professionally run business advocacy body composed of the leading local and multinational businesses. It works without sectoral and country of origin biases, for the greater good of Pakistan and business.

In the last eighteen months, under Syed Yawar Ali's leadership, the PBC has made significant progress in its "Make-in-Pakistan" thrust which aims to create jobs, generate value-added exports and encourage competitive import substitution."

Brief bios of the outgoing and incoming leadership of the PBC are as follows:

Syed Yawar Ali

Syed Yawar Ali was educated at Aitchison College Lahore and got his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and Masters in Management Science from Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey (USA). He also completed the Advance Management Program (AMP 111) from Harvard Business School in 1992. He joined his family business i.e. Packages Limited in 1972 and then became Managing Director of Milk Pak Ltd. In 1988 Milk Pak joined hands with Nestle for a very successful Joint Venture.

Syed Yawar Ali is currently Chairman of Nestlé Pakistan Limited, Wazir Ali Industries Limited, Prime Genetics (pvt) Ltd. He has also been on the Board of Directors of State Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan International Airlines and Chairman of Lahore Electric Supply Company, Chairman, Agricultural Development Bank of Pakistan and Chairman, Pakistan Dairy Association.

He is also Co-Chair of the Pakistan India Joint Business Forum (PIJBF) this committee is Notified by Ministry of Commerce (Pakistan) to "Promote Trade with India", Director Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Pakistan, Director Global Change Impact Studies Centre, Director Punjab Board of Investment & Trade, Member of United Nations Committee for Contributions, Chairman, Steering Committee of Dairy & Rural Development Foundation. Member, Pakistan Trade and Investment Policy Program and also Director of Pakistan Business Council.

Saquib Shirazi

Saquib Shirazi has been the Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Honda Limited since 2000. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance and did his MBA from the Harvard Business School. He started his career with the Bank of Tokyo and was subsequently appointed as the CEO of Atlas BOT Investment Bank. In addition to being a member of the Atlas Group, he currently serves as a Director of Pakistan Cables Limited. In the past, he has also served on the Boards of Pakistan Petroleum Limited, National Refinery Limited, Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, Cherat Cement Limited, Cherat Paper Limited and the Privatization Commission of Pakistan. He has also served on Harvard Business School's Global Alumni Board and was its President for the years 2006-2008. He is currently a member of Harvard Business School's Advisory Board.

Muhammad Aurangzeb

Muhammad Aurangzeb joined HBL on April 30, 2018 as the President & CEO.

Prior to this responsibility at HBL, Mr Aurangzeb was the CEO for JP Morgan's Global Corporate Bank based in Asia, with a rich international banking experience of over 30 years in other senior management roles at ABN AMRO and RBS based in Amsterdam and Singapore.

Aurangzeb received his BS and MBA degrees from The Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), and he is the only Pakistani to be invited to the exclusive membership of the Global CEO Council organized by WSJ/DowJones group."-PR
