ISLAMABAD: Prices of essential kitchen items have witnessed a mixed trend during this past week as compared to the week before, a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Saturday revealed.

The survey observed no changes in sugar price and wheat flour prices, which just a week before Eidul Azha witnessed an increase of Rs200 per 50kg bag and Rs115 per 25kg bag respectively as wheat flour per 25 kg bag is available at Rs1,555 and sugar at Rs4,550 per 50kg bag.

In the retail market, sugar is being sold at Rs100 per kg and wheat flour at Rs70 per kg.

According to grocery traders, in the coming months, sugar price is likely to touch Rs5,000 per 50kg bag, if the government did not take serious practical steps in checking the prices.

During the week, vegetables prices witnessed a mixed trend as best quality potato price came down from Rs300 per 5kg to Rs270 per 5kg, while normal is available at Rs250 per 5kg against Rs275 per 5kg.

In retail market, best quality potatoes are being sold at Rs70 per kg, while normal at Rs60 per kg, onions price went up from Rs150 per 5kg to Rs220 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs55 per kg against Rs40 per kg.

Tomato price went up from Rs325 per 5kg to Rs350 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs85 per kg against Rs80 per kg.

Local garlic price went down from Rs750 per 5kg to Rs700 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs180 per kg against Rs200 per kg, and ginger price remained stable at Rs2,200 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs500 per kg.

Peas price jumped from Rs500 per 5kg to Rs600 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs150 per kg, cucumber price went up from Rs120 per 5kg to Rs150 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs40 per kg against Rs30 per kg, okra price jumped from Rs150 per 5kg to Rs180 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs45 per kg against Rs40 per kg, bitter-gourd price went down from Rs200 per 5kg to Rs150 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs40 per kg against Rs50 per kg.

Cauliflower price went up from Rs230 per 5kg to Rs275 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs70 per kg against Rs55 per kg, and cabbage price went up from Rs250 per 5kg to Rs320 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs75 per kg against Rs60 per kg.

During this week, ghee/cooking oil prices remained unchanged as second-grade ghee/cooking oil in wholesales market is available at Rs2,510 per carton of 16 packs, which in retail is being sold at Rs170 per pack, and top-grade cooking oil/ghee is being sold at Rs1,250 per 5 litre bottle.

Rice prices also witnessed no changes during this week as best quality Basmati rice is available at Rs6,100 per 40 kg and second best quality from Rs5,400 per 40kg, while broken Basmati rice price at Rs4,000 per 40kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs180, Rs160, and Rs110 per kg respectively.

Egg price in wholesale market has witnessed a slight reduction from Rs127 per dozen to Rs123 per dozen, which in retail are being sold at Rs130-Rs135 per dozen against Rs140 per dozen.

During the week, chicken price also witnessed a reduction from Rs6,500 per 40kg to Rs6,200 per 40kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs175 per kg against Rs185 per kg, while chicken meat price went down from Rs290 per kg to Rs275 per kg.

During the week under review, prices of majority of the pulses witnessed a slight reduction as moong price went down from Rs290 per kg to Rs260 per kg, maash from Rs250-260 per kg to Rs240 per kg, best quality lobia from Rs300 per kg to Rs280 per kg, masoor remained unchanged at Rs160 per kg and chana is stable at Rs135 per kg.

No changes were witnessed in top brands of ghee/cooking oil, tea, spices, powder milk, salt, chillis, turmeric and other items.

Overall fruit prices witnessed a mixed trend as best quality white apple price went further down from Rs180 per kg to Rs150 per kg, while normal is available in the range of Rs120-130 per kg against Rs130-145 per kg, Gajja apple is being sold at Rs100 per kg against Rs120 per kg.

Good quality banana is being sold at Rs100 per dozen, while normal quality at Rs80-90 per dozen against Rs65-75 per dozen.

Various qualities of melons are available in the range of Rs40-100 per kg, and various qualities of peach in the range of Rs150-250 per kg against Rs100-225 per kg.

Mangoes are available in the range of Rs90-150 per kg, apricot at Rs150 per kg against Rs160 per kg, grapes at Rs200 per kg, and sweet orange at Rs150 per dozen.
