KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought the details of federal cabinet meeting pertaining to report of Sugar Inquiry Commission.

A division bench of SHC hearing the petition of sugar mills against implementation of report of Sugar Inquiry Commission ordered the federal government to furnish the details of cabinet meeting, which was held on May 21, 2020 to discuss the report of sugar commission.

Court also sought the detail of participants of the federal cabinet with the details of elected and non-elected members of the cabinet.

"Furnish the details how many members are elected and how many are non-elected," Court ordered Additional Attorney General.

Earlier, court expressed annoyance over the plea of Additional Attorney General to adjourn the hearing of petition.

Deputy Attorney General Kashif Paracha submitted that Attorney General is busy in Supreme Court. Attorney General was supposed to appear in the hearing of case as per the orders of court.

Additional Attorney General requested the court to give the time till August 11, 2020 as Attorney General would give the arguments himself in the case.

"We can't wait for Attorney General for the whole week," Justice K.K. Agha stated.

Additional Attorney General submitted that federal government should be given the opportunity to respond to the allegations levelled against it. "If Attorney General could not appear then you should give arguments," court asked Additional Attorney General by rejecting the plea to grant more time.

Court ordered that Attorney General should come to Karachi and give arguments from Supreme Court Karachi Registry through video link.

Court ordered Attorney General to appear in the hearing on Friday to give the arguments in the petition.
