LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) disposed of 54,000 tons of animal waste, particularly offal, during three days of Eid-ul-Azha and resolved more than 15,000 complaints.

The cleanliness operation was backed by day and night working of thousands of sanitary workers, machinery including pickups, compactors, dumpers, loaders, and on the support of Turkish contractor companies (Albayrak and Ozpak), said a Company's spokesperson here on Monday.

LWMC Chairman Riaz Hameed Chaudhary, LWMC MD Muhammad Aslam Rao and LWMC officials paid a frequent visit across the city to monitor the cleanliness operation. They also monitored the whole operation from the video wall control room.

In this connection, the Chairman said the entire staff of LWMC deserved appreciation over their exceptional performance during the Eid.

The LWMC MD said that LWMC devised a comprehensive strategy to effectively collect and dispose of more than 54,000 tons of animal waste; they collected offal using 1.7 million waste bags, which were distributed among masses at Eid camps, model camps, shops, mosques and during door to door campaigns.

"The strategy also focused on swift and timely lifting of animal waste from streets engaging additional pickups and transportation of waste, firstly, to 119 temporary waste collection and transfer stations and later five 5 designated dumpsites, and 293 Eid camps were established at union council level," he said.

According to him, animal waste was dumped at specially established dumping points in an environment-friendly manner, covering it with soil and lime. Special arrangements were made at major slaughterhouses by deploying workers and machinery there, including mechanical washing applying phenyl, Dettol, and Arq-e-Gulab. Moreover, his department resolved more than 15,000 complaints received on the LWMC helpline.
