KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 166,262 tonnes of cargo comprising 107,029 tonnes of import cargo and 59,233 tonnes of export cargo including 7,312 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 107,029 tonnes comprised of 64,366 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,376 tonnes of bulk cargo; and 38,287 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 59,233 tonnes comprised of 41,034 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,199 tonnes of bulk cargo and 4,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 7,312 containers comprising of 4,323 containers of import and 2,989 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,328 of 20's and 1,364 of 40's loaded while 97 of 20's and 85 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,380 of 20's and 516 of 40's loaded containers while 215 of 20's and 181 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely CSL Sophie, CMA CGM Racine, Kota Naked, MT Lahore and Stena Provence carrying containers, oil tanker and mogas respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were two vessels carrying containers currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 177,535 tonnes comprising of 138,984 tonnes of import cargo and 38,551 tonnes of export cargo including 3,606 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 138,984 tonnes includes 71,900 tonnes of coal; 12,535 tonnes of palm oil; 14,193 tonnes of furnace oil; 7,000 tonnes of soyabean; 2,000 tonnes of LPG; 1,393 tonnes of project cargo and 29,963 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 38,551 tonnes includes 38,551 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,606 containers comprising of 1,577 containers import and 2,029 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There were two ships namely MSC Busan and Silver Philippa carrying containers and palm oil respectively sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while four ships namely Laura, Sirina, White Purl and Marvel carrying coal, LPG and furnace oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eleven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, project cargo, coal, soyabean, LPG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as fourteen vessels viz. Maersk Kinloss, CMA CGM Titus, Silver Lucky, Gwen, Chayanee Naree, Nordic Marita, Stove Ocean, White Fin, Tiger Winter, Epic Sardina, Till Jocob, BW Amazon, Al-Salam-II and Gulf Horizon carrying containers, general cargo, steel coil, project cargo, coal, cement, chemical, LPG, mogas and gas oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. Maersk Kinloss, Nordic Marita, Epic Sardina and Al-Salam-II carrying containers, coal, LPG and gas oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There was no ships due to arrive on Wednesday.

There are three ships namely Safmarine Ngami, Diyala and Gwon carrying containers and project cargo respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
