ISLAMABAD: The Covid-19 nationwide cases tally on Monday reached 274,808, death toll 5,853 and recoveries so far 241,026, according to the data released by national and provincial authorities.

With 274,808 Covid-19 cases, Pakistan is the 12th most-affected coronavirus country, behind US with 4.4 million cases, Brazil 2.4 million, India almost 1.5 million, Russia 0.82 million, South Africa 0.45 million, Mexico 0.39 million, Peru 0.38 million, Chile 0.345 million, Spain 0.319 million, the UK 0.299 million, and Iran 0.293 million cases.

According to data, Sindh with 118,824 Covid-19 cases is top among all the provinces, followed by Punjab with 92,073 cases, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with 33,397 cases, Islamabad 14,884 cases, Balochistan 11,601 cases, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 2,040 cases, and Gilgit-Baltistan 1,989 cases. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, the province over the past 24 hours has reported 172 new cases of the novel coronavirus.

The PDMA said that no death was reported in the province for the first time since May 26. The total number of confirmed cases in Punjab is now 92,073 of which 2,116 have died. Sindh has reported 513 coronavirus cases and 11 deaths during the past 24 hours.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here said 8,742 tests were carried out in the province during this period. With the new cases, the provincial total has risen to 118,824, while the death toll has risen to 2,162.

According to KP Health Department the province has confirmed 177 new cases taking the total to 33,397 while two more people have lost their lives taking the total deaths to 1,178.

The KP Health Department said that 102 more patients have recovered taking the tally to 27,119.

203,986 total tests were conducted in the KP.

The KPK government is considering a plan to stop admitting Covid-19 patients to medical teaching institutions (MTIs).

Khyber Teaching Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex and Lady Ready Hospital have been closed for general patients for the last four months due to the pandemic.

Lately, there has been 70 per cent decline in Covid-19 cases, prompting authorities to divert virus patients to two newly-established facilities, and open the MTIs for general patients.

Balochistan has reported 23 coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, according to the provincial health department's daily situation report.

With the new cases, the provincial tally has risen to 11,601. However, no new deaths have been reported since July 22 and the death toll remains 136. Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have collectively reported 91 new cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours, the government's Covid-19 portal said.
