KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought the reply from Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and others about the opening of parks, clubs and public places for August 11, 2020.

A division bench of the SHC issued notices to KMC and others after a petition was filed in the court about opening of clubs, parks and public places, which were closed after the outbreak of Covid-19.

The bench asked the petitioner about the reasons for opening the parks and other public places. "You are neither a doctor nor a scientist. So how did you assess that parks should be opened", Justice Adnan Iqbal remarked.

Petitioner Ahmed Nawaz Usmani said that people should strengthen their immunity in the age of Covid-19 and this can be done through walk. "You want that people should gather in the parks and would cause the spread of Covid-19,'' Justice Adnan stated in response to the contention of the petitioner.

The petitioner said that the government has relaxed the lockdown. When bazaars are opened then what the reason behind the closure of parks, he pointed out.

The petitioner submitted that people are feeling suffocation in their homes due to closure of parks and public places. Meanwhile, the SHC bench approved a petition for hearing, which was filed against the hike in the prices of milk in Karachi.

Petitioner Maskeen Gujjar submitted in the court that Commissioner Karachi notified Rs94 per litre for milk in the city, however it is being sold at Rs120 per litre.

The petitioner who is retailer of milk submitted that the commissioner Karachi should raid cattle farms which are supplying expensive milk rather than milk shops, which are buying the milk on higher rates.
