KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 173,587 tonnes of cargo comprising 117,200 tonnes of import cargo and 56,387 tonnes of export cargo including 8,308 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 117,200 tonnes comprised of 63,149 tonnes of containerised cargo; 26,088 tonnes of bulk cargo and 27,963 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 56,387 tonnes comprised of 48,587 tonnes of containerised cargo; 100 tonnes of general cargo and 7,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 8,308 containers comprising of 4,477 containers of import and 3,831 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,293 of 20's and 1,539 of 40's loaded while 24 of 20's and 41 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,143 of 20's and 1,047 of 40's loaded containers while 360 of 20's and 117 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely Clemens Schulte, MT Quetta, Nordic Geneva and Grace carrying containers, oil tanker, mogas and clinkers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were five vessel carrying containers, oil tanker and clinkers respectively currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 154,079 tonnes comprising of 132,989 tonnes of import cargo and 21,090 tonnes of export cargo including 3,216 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 132,989 tonnes includes 23,000 tonnes of coal; 39,272 tonnes of LNG; 9,800 tonnes of palm oil; 19,700 tonnes of chemical; 615 tonnes of gasoline; 588 tonnes of general cargo and 40,014 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 21,090 tonnes includes 21,090 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,216 containers comprising of 2,106 containers import and 1,110 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

There was one ship namely BBC Song carrying general cargo sail out to sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely Genuine Hercules carrying chemical is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, coal, soyabean, LNG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as twelve vessels viz. Express Rome, MOL Generosity, PAC Antares, Energy Glory, Epic Sardinia, Ejnan, Amber, APC Nemo, Gulf Horizon, Ventage Rider, Asia Marine and Nord Kitan carrying containers, steel coil, soyabean, LPG, LNG, gasoline, gas oil, palm kernel and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five ships viz. MOL Generosity, PAC Antares, Epic Sardinia, Ejnan and Nord Kitan carrying containers, steel coil, LPG, LNG and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, PSSGC LPG Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday.

There are three ships namely MSC Noa, Express Rome and Hansa America carrying containers due to arrive on Thursday.
