Pakistan resumes Afghanistan exports to India through Wagah
- The Foreign Office (FO) on Monday said that Pakistan has decided to resume exports through the border on special request from the Government of Afghanistan.
Pakistan has reopened the Wagah border to resume Afghanistan exports through the crossing on Wednesday.
The Foreign Office (FO) on Monday said that Pakistan has decided to resume exports through the border on special request from the Government of Afghanistan. The statement said a decision has been taken to facilitate Afghanistan’s transit trade.
"With this step, Pakistan has fulfilled its commitments under Pakistan-Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA)," the FO statement read.
“We welcome Pakistan’s announced reopening of Angoor Adda, Kharlachi, and Wagah border crossings for Afghan trade,” the State Department’s official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs said on social media. “This grows livelihoods & prosperity in both countries. Facilitating Afghan exports strengthens its economy as it rebounds from COVID-19 trade disruptions,” it added.
It is pertinent to mention that the Wagah border is located near Lahore, the capital of the Punjab province, and is one of the major crossings between India and Pakistan.
