SC sets aside SHC's order, allows govt to take action against sugar mills
- Islamabad High Court and SHC have been given three weeks time by the SC to announce verdicts regarding the report.
Suspending the stay order by the Sindh High Court (SHC), the Supreme Court (SC) has allowed the government to take action on the sugar inquiry commission report.
A three- member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed, heard the federal government’s petition challenging the SHC order. The petition stated that the SHC had no jurisdiction to halt an investigation.
The SHC had stopped the government from taking action against sugar mill owners held responsible for the sugar price hike.
IHC directs sugar to be sold at Rs70/kg for next 10 days
During the hearing today, the SC allowed the government to continued with their investigation, while restraining it from taking unnecessary steps against the sugar mills. The top court has also stopped the government officials from making remarks on the report, local media reported.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court and SHC have been given three weeks time by the SC to announce verdicts regarding the report.
