Mango exports from Pakistan to Japan has started this season. Due to the absence of Japanese inspectors in Pakistan amid the coronavirus pandemic this year, mango exports were allowed under temporary arrangements.
According to the Japanese embassy in Pakistan, 120 tonnes of mangoes were exported from Pakistan to Japan last year, which is a record and shows the adaptation of Pakistani mangoes to Japanese markets.
Generally, the export of Pakistani mangoes to Japan is subject to the clearance of Japanese inspectors. However, this year Pakistani mangoes were allowed to be exported under temporary arrangements without the clearance of Japanese inspectors.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, Japanese inspectors could not come to Pakistan so data pertaining to Pakistani mango and other necessary documents were sent to Japan.
According to the Japanese embassy, Japan will continue to support Pakistan in the agricultural sector.
