LAHORE: A delegation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations Punjab (FAPUASA), led by its President Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry met the Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun at the Governor House.

The other members of the delegation were Dr Muhammad Amir Maqsood, Secretary FAPUASA Punjab, Javed Sami, Secretary PU ASA, Dr Moqeet Javed Vice President PU ASA, Dr Faheem Gauhar, Presents TSA UET, Dr Abdul Sattar Malik, President ASA BZU Multan, Dr Atif Shabaz, President ASA GCU Lahore, Dr Hamoodul Rehman, President ASA Okara University and Dr Sajid Iqbal BZU.

The delegation presented their demands in the form of the "Charter of Demands "to the Chancellor/Governor. After a lengthy discussion for two hours, the government accepted all the demands of the teachers. The Charter of Demands was later signed by both the Minister for Higher Education and the President FAPUASA.

Addressing after the successful negotiations with the government, the FAPUASA President Prof Dr Mumtaz Anwar Chaudhry congratulated the community on their unity, resolve and perseverance. He said that the government had agreed over ensuring the autonomy of the universities and no amendment would be made in the Act of any university without consultation of stakeholders.

He said that the government had also promised to provide more funds to the universities in the supplementary grant. He also thanked national media and civil society for their cooperation with the hope that Punjab Government would stick to its commitment with the teachers' leadership and the governance of all the universities of the Punjab would be streamlined in accordance with the demands of the Federation. He further stated the teachers will continue to review the steps of the government critically.
