Supreme Court of Pakistan, while proceeding in a murder case of a bar member Shabnam, has directed Chief Minister Punjab to take action against the delinquent police officials who are responsible of filing challan cases late and create hurdles in disposal of the case early.
The court observed that law was not seen prevailing in the province of the Punjab as no one was abiding by the law. The court observed that IGP should be taken to task as all this was happening under his nose. Earlier Prosecutor General Punjab, IGP Home Secretary and other high officials appeared before the court. The prosecutor informed the court that challan case of Shabnam has been filed before the court on February 21, and added that record of all the pending cases had been obtained and IGP had been directed to submit all the challan cases before the courts within next week. The accused in the case Ali Nawaz was produced before the court. He informed the court that he had not been produced before the court since June 7 last.
The court was informed that he was on remand on fake court orders. At this court asked the Home Secretary to tell how the affairs of the province are being run? Peoples are trying to jeopardise the system and it seems even court orders could bring good results here.
IGP informed the court that the responsible police official of lower mall police has been suspended and others had been issued show cause notices. The court observed that police was showing zero efficiency and only show cause notices could not bring better results. The court observed that if CM would take action against such officials, no delay in submission of challan could be witnessed in future. The court also directed Home Secretary Punjab to prepare a detailed report about the conditions of the jails and recommend for expansion and construction of new jails and also ordered to constitute a medical board for medical checkup of the jail inmates so as better facilities could be provided to them.
