The allottees of Kurri Model Village on Monday staged a violent protest and did not allow the high-ups of Capital Development Authority (CDA) to inaugurate the controversial Park Enclave Housing scheme launched by civic body last year to overcome its financial crisis.
Kurri Model village launched in 2010 by CDA consisting of 4,700 residential and commercial plots awarded as compensation for the land acquired by the civic body for construction of compost plant and landfill site as well as Park Encalve Housing scheme. Kurri Model village is located adjacent to Park Enclave.
Hundreds of allottees of Kurri Model village Park Enclave blocked Park Road upon the arrival of CDA chairman Farkhan Iqbal and Chairman Prime Minister Task Force Faisal Butt for the inauguration ceremony of the Park Enclave House Scheme. The protesters chanted slogans against CDA high-ups for delay of development of Kurri Mondel village and demanded commencement of the development of Kurri Model Village before the inauguration of Park Enclave.
The CDA high ups ignored the protesters and began the inauguration ceremony, which infuriated the protesters who then began to dismantle tents set up by CDA and hurled stones at the participants. The CDA chairman and the chief guest left the venue without inaugurating the scheme. A number of protesters and CDA officials received minor injuries on the occasion.
Engineer Farkhand Iqbal said on Monday that the Authority is committed to the development of Park Enclave within 18 months time as CDA has 100 percent possession of the land on which the Park Enclave Housing Scheme has been envisaged, the CDA spokesman CDA. He said that each and every penny on account of the land acquisition and compensation for the built-up-property has been paid and nothing is pending with the CDA regarding Park Enclave. Farkhand Iqbal said immediate steps would be taken to resolve the genuine issues of the people in the development of the stalled sectors.
He said Park Enclave is a unique housing project and the whole project land was under CDA's possession and the issues raised by the locals mainly pertained to Kurri Village and other areas. He assured the residents that they would be taken onboard on all developments in this regard.
The Chairman said he had already directed Member Estate to resolve the issues of the built up property in the areas of Park Enclave Phase-II which the CDA was contemplating to launch with a view to provide housing facility to low-income people.
