Twelve to 18-hour power loading shedding has forced industrial workers and masses to come out to the streets in Faisalabad. Hundreds of powerloom workers took out a protest rally from Jaranwala Road and stormed the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) office, they burned tyres and torn down the flags of the political parities.
Protestors also blocked the busiest Abdullah Pur Chowk for six hours, while due to industrial workers strike, powerlooms industry remained closed to mark the protest. The Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot people were also held protest rallies.
Chaudhry Salamat Ali, Chairman, former chairman and Chief Co-ordinator, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) North Zone said that industrial and textile policies could not yield positive results so far, because the tariff and fuel adjustment charges of electricity and gas bills are being gone high in every month plus continuing load-shedding.
He pointed out that rising cost of production is the core issue for export oriented and labour intensive textile industry is prevailing economic conditions and discontinuity of drawback refund would shed negative impact on exports and creating financial crunch. Meanwhile, the Fesco teams have started to patrol and check the theft of distribution transformers in Faisalabad and its adjoining areas, in this connection Fesco seeks help of district administration and police.
Tariq Mehmood Chattha Chief Executive Officer, Fesco has expressed concerned over the increase incidents of theft of distribution transformers and made an appeal to the consumers and people to ask for the identification of any person, trying to remove transformer from their colonies, commercial center or their neighbourhood after sun set or before sun rise. He said that no body should be allowed to work on any transformer if he fails to identify him as bonafied employee of Fesco.
