Protesting the attitude of members belonging to PML-Q, PML-F and NPP, Pir Mazharul Haq, Chairman Sindh Assembly Special Committee Monday tendered his resignation. Speaker Sindh Assembly had constituted a Special Committee a few weeks back with the mandate to review controversial resolutions tabled in the assembly against the amendment to Article 239(4) of constitution.
Speaking with the media, Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq confirmed that he has resigned from the slot of chairman of the committee because of the attitude of members belonging to PML-Q, PML-F and NPP. He said that he has sacrificed for democracy and Sindh but some people are saying that he is an 'anti-Sindh' man and they have launched a campaign against him.
In this regard, sources that were present in the meeting told Business Recorder that when the meeting started, Haq came with some press clippings and asked some members one-by-one about the stories published in various papers regarding the committee meetings. Firstly, he asked PML-Q's Shehryar Mehar whether he gave statement against him in the media. Mehar replied 'yes'. Later, he asked the same question to PML-F's Jam Madad Ali and NPP's Arif Mustafa Jatoi and both replied in 'yes', sources added.
Reacting at this, Mazharul Haq termed media statements of members a conspiracy against him and, in protest, announced resignation from the chairmanship. During the meeting, he wrote a resignation and submitted it to Secretary Sindh Assembly, Hadi Bux Buriro, sources informed. Later, the members asked the secretary whether the meeting could be continued or adjourned in this situation. He replied that with the resignation, the meeting would automatically be adjourned, they added.
Expressing hiss views, Jam Madad Ali said Pir Mazharul Haq is his elder and he urges him to continue as chairman of the body. However, Arif Mustafa Jatoi hoped for appointment of a new chairman of the body. "If Speaker Sindh assembly accepts the resignation of Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq than the committee would elect its new chairman in today's meeting. But, if the resignation does not get accepted than the meeting could be held with Mazharul Haq in the chair, if he agrees so", parliamentary experts told this scribe.
It may be noted here that all members of the committee were present during the meeting while, about 10 co-movers were also came to attend the meeting. The committee meeting would now be held today (Tuesday) after the Sindh Assembly session, sources concluded.
