Chicken meat prices up by Rs 25 per kg

The prices of chicken meat have gone up by Rs 25 per kg from Rs 135 to Rs 160 per kg due to greater demand since the marriage season and moderate weather started in Punjab. Former President Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) and a prominent exporter of chicken meat Abdul Basit told Business Recorder that the poultry farmers were selling their produce at a loss of Rs 50 per kg due to over production as their cost of production is around Rs 180 per kg.
They get some profit when chicken meat is sold at Rs 200 per kg, he added. He said that 25,000 poultry farms of the country produce nearly 3 million birds or 6 million kg chicken meat per day to meet demands of the people as it is the cheapest source of protein. He said that poultry product prices based on demand and supply mechanism but the credit goes to the poultry farmers who continued to supply chicken meat to the consumers at the lowest possible rates as compared to the prices of mutton and beef which have increased by 100 percent in a short span of time.
