A prisoner on Friday found dead in police custody in Brigade police station. According to the sources, the deceased Muhammad Ali, who was detained along with his accomplice namely Imran over the charge of robbery from Preedy street on October 5, 2011, lost his life in Brigade police custody.
They said both accused persons, who snatched cell phones and cash from a person namely Faraz at Preedy Street, faced road accident while trying to escape after committing the crime. Moreover, the police said they received severe injures and were taken into police custody by area people. The sources said the accused Imran sustained head injuries and was admitted in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) while his accomplice Muhammad Ali got leg-fracture and was in imprisonment. They said the accused Muhammad Ali was beaten to death by police in remand room.
When contacted SHO Jahangir dispelled the impression that the accused lost his life in remand room, saying that his condition was not good and was being shifted to JPMC but he succumbed to his injures on the way to hospital. He further said the deceased was notorious criminal and was nominated in six other cases. Meanwhile, MLO JPMC in his report declared the reason of death was severe injuries that led massive outflow of blood from the body.
