Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that energy conference would be held on Monday in Islamabad for formulating a strategy for getting rid of electricity load shedding. Chief ministers of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and KP provinces, concerned ministers and institutions will attend the energy conference.
Talking to media persons, she said that provinces are fully authorised to initiate electricity generation projects and it is high time that provincial government should play their due role in starting power generation projects in their respective provinces. The energy conference will surely help in mitigating the problems pertaining to electricity and people will feel sign of relief she said.
Dr Firdous revealed that in order to monitor the implementation of All Parties Conference (APC) resolutions a committee would be constituted with the active consultation of all political parties and hopefully the committee would constituted in National Assembly session.
Unanimous approval of APC resolution would be supportive in strengthening the internal and external and sovereignty of the country, she said. She said that participation of all political parties in APC indicates that we are united on national issues and this conference (APC) gives a message to the world that Pakistani nation as well as political parties are united on national issues and it provides an opportunity to leadership to highlight the viewpoint of Pakistan at international level.
Dr Firdous stressed upon the media persons that they should use their pen for bringing the radical changes in the mindset of the society. The uppermost duty of journalist community was to project their reports based on facts without any fear and pressure and if they worked under pressure media will face decline, she said. The minister said that healthy and impartial criticism could guide the government and political leaders to change their viewpoint on certain national issues.
Under the fast changing scenario of the globe demands that journalists should work in a respectable way by using the power of their pen to cope with the new challenges, she said. Dr Firdous was of the opinion that journalist community and Sialkot Press Club will play its instrumental role in bringing positive change in mindset of the people of Sialkot adding that without changing the state of mind we could not achieve the desired goals she said.
The minister urged upon the journalist community that they should mobilise their social contacts in mobilising the general public, business community and philanthropists to donate generously in Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund in telethon.
