ECP rejects Fafen survey report

Published Updated

Outrightly rejecting a survey report issued by Free and Fair Election Network (Fafen), an official of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday said the ECP was utilising the database of Nadra, and Census Department in the ongoing door-to-door verification process. "It is too early to speculate about the authenticity of the voters list as the process is still continuing at smooth pace," he said while talking to APP.
He said National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has authentic database of over 80 million people. It has already issued Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to over 92 percent population. The draft electoral rolls had been prepared by Nadra. ECP was only verifying the draft electoral lists across the country since August 22, he added. So it is not possible to miss over 10 million voters name from the draft electoral rolls as alleged by Fafen in its report. He also reminded that a system has already been in place to automatically enlist the name of each and every citizen having CNIC in the draft electoral rolls, he said.
The people having dual addresses would be given a chance to specify their choicest place for casting vote. Their name from other list would be deleted automatically. The people would be given fair chance to enlist themselves as a voter if their name is missed for any reason. After the completion of the ongoing door-to-door verification process, the draft voter lists would be displayed at over 45,000 Display Centers for 21 days across the country.
