The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed leader of Balochistan National Party (BNP), Muhammad Ali Rind, to contest election for Parliament. A three-member bench headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan heard the plea filed by Muhammad Ali Rind against his electoral disqualification. The SC had reserved the judgement in this case on September 21.
The bench observed that any person who completed his sentence, awarded by the court, does not remain ineligible to contest election for ever. Upholding the Balochistan High Court judgement, disqualifying Rind for ever, the court allowed him to participate in the next general election. On last hearing on September 19 the Supreme Court had observed that there was no need of any proof to declare a convict disqualified, as the conviction itself falls in the ambit of disqualification.
