Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports, and Tourism, Syed Aqil Shah said that government has initiated different projects worth Rs 1.5 billion for promotion of tourism in the province. Addressing at ceremony held under the auspices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Corporation (KP-TC) in connection with "World Tourism Day", here on Tuesday.
Aqil said that the tourism sector has been badly affected due to prolonged insurgency and terrorism during the last three years. However, he expressed hope that government will keep maximum focus for revitalisation of tourism in next two years. He said the tourism department is working around the clock in order to remove all weakness and hurdles in promotion of the sector. He said that government has initiated different schemes worth Rs 1.5 billion for promotion of tourism in the province.
Giving details of different projects, he said that the establishment of international standard watercourse is underway in Khanpur, whereas the chair-lift project would also be installed for promotion of tourism in Naran, and Khagan. He said that the government is focusing on those areas where tourism attractions are more visible. He highlighted the role of media for promotion of tourism and said that they promoted different spots in a better way.
The provincial minister asked the federal government for hand-over PTDC after its devolution under the 18th constitutional amendment, saying that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has fully prepared to run the affairs of the PTDC.
He informed that the Peshawar museum is one of the oldest and historic of the world and Pakistan is the sole country where different kinds of sculptures of various dynasties are available. Concluding, he said that the Pakistan has a remarkable position regarding four different seasonal weather, and asked that the foreign tourists to visit land of beautification and rich tourists spots in KP.
He furthered that the province has remained a great centre for Buddha civilisation, adding that the government is in contact with Buddha religion countries, like Sri Lanka, Korea, Chian and Japan to take initiatives for preservation of their religion. Later, Chairman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly standing committee for tourism, Shagufta Malik formally inaugurated photo exhibition, which will continue for a week with free entry. In the exhibition, more than 200year old pictures of different tourist spots were put on the display.
