President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned National Assembly session on October 3, 2011 to discuss national security situation and a series of allegations levelled by senior US officials against ISI for supporting the Haqqani network. The president has summoned this session on the advice of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
The session will be held following a series of serious allegations by senior US officials will focus on the security situation and the challenges confronting the country. Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in a news conference on Friday took notice of threatening statements by US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen and called immediately for convening parliament session to formulate a 'national stance' in view of recent deterioration in Pakistan-US relations and the expected threat to the country's sovereignty.
According to the sources, the Opposition would also raise the issues of Karachi target killings, price hike, shortage of electricity and gas and economic situation of the country in forthcoming session of the Lower House of the Parliament.
The sources in the National Assembly Secretariat told Business Recorder that Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar may move the Bill in the House to provide for the establishment of Private Power and Infrastructure Board [The Private Power and Infrastructure Board Bill, 2010].
The sources said that Muhammad Pervaiz Malik, Shireen Arshad khan and Nuzhat Sadiq are likely to move a call attention notice to invite attention of the Minister for Water and Power to a matter of urgent public importance regarding increase in the tariff of electricity by more than Rs 2/- per unit, causing grave concern amongst the public.
