Garner claims British cycling gold

Lucy Garner sprinted to victory in the junior women's road race at the road world championships to hand Britain their first gold of the competition Friday. Garner, who celebrated her 17th birthday last week, finished ahead of Belgium's Jessy Druyts and Christina Siggaard of Denmark after 70 km of racing on a 14 km circuit to the north of the Danish capital.
Italian Rossella Ratto and Mieke Kroger of Germany, the latter a medallist in the time trial, had looked set to duel for the gold but fell victim to a strong headwind and the ensuing peloton in the home straight.
