River Indus continues to flow in low flood

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Monday said that River Indus continued to flow in low flood at Guddu with falling trend while all other main rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are normal. The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicate that both Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs attained Maximum Conservation levels.
Any monsoon rain from now onwards may cause flooding, as there is no more storage capacity available in these major reservoirs. The combined live storage position of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 11.914 MAF as compared to last year's 11.753 MAF, said a daily FFC report. According to Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, weak seasonal low lies over north-eastern Balochistan. A trough of weak westerly wave is moving across northern Afghanistan.
The FFD predicted scattered thunderstorm/rain over Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Isolated thunderstorm/ rain may also occur over Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Bahawalpur Divisions, including upper catchment of Rivers Indus, Jhelum and Chenab during the same period.
Significant rainfall events reported during the past 24 hours include Parachinar, 47 mm, Mangla, 33 mm, Islamabad, 31 mm, Peshawar, 22 mm, Dir and Besham, 18 mm each, Warsak, 17 mm, Jhelum, 16 mm, Kamra and Risalpur, 15 mm each, Dara-e-Tang and Tarbela, 13 mm each, Mardan (Rashidabad), Cherat and Kakul, 10 mm each.
