Published Updated

Federal Board of Revenue Member Inland Revenue and Director General Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue (IR) Shahid Hussain Asad has directed the Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to conduct desk audit of all corporate cases including big companies, manufacturers, corporate entities and multinational companies on the basis of information available with the tax department.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that Shahid Hussain Asad has issued these instructions to the Chief Commissioners of LTUs and RTOs during the last Chief Commissioner Conference held at the FBR House. The FBR has also issued instructions to the field formations on September 19, 2011 to immediately start desk audit of mega corporate cases without any delay.
FBR Member IR has also advised the Chief Commissioners of LTUs and RTOs to set high standards of professionalism, dedication and integrity. In this respect, he advised maximisation of revenue through broadening of the tax base, monitoring and audit of withholding agents, enforcement of return filing, desk audit of all corporate cases and maximum non-corporate cases, learning of sales tax by officers having income tax back ground and vice versa, collection of arrears to maximise revenue generation during 2011-12.
FBR Member Inland Revenue has also categorically conveyed to the LTUs and RTOs that sincerity, commitment and integrity of taxmen were essential and their absence would result in erosion of taxpayer's confidence. He also emphasised that sincerity, commitment and integrity of taxmen were essential and their absence would result in loss of taxpayers' confidence.
He referred to latest drive of dissemination of information by the IR Intelligence 'and Investigation Wing, which has not only helped in generating revenue but also helped in drive to broaden the tax base without any hue and cry from general public. Later, every participant during the Chief Commissioner Conference highlighted salient features of policies and the areas they intended to explore for meeting their projected estimates.
