Islamabad Police high command constituted special teams to work in four zones of the Federal Capital to curb the menace of car-lifting once for all.
The decision to constitute special teams was taken in a meeting held here on Thursday with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan in the chair attended by SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP (Headquarters) Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, SPs Muhammad Ilyas, Muhammad Ishaq Warrach, Chaudhry Liaqat, Fasial Bashmir Memon, all Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Station House Officers and other police officials of Operational Division.
SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan informed the meeting that policemen of anti-car lifting cell have been appointed at pickets to assist district police in accomplishing their responsibilities in an effective manner. The IGP directed all officials, especially those working at police stations to co-ordinate with the special teams in obtaining record of car thieves and raiding their hideouts as well.
Khan directed the police officials to evaluate the crime trends and then adopt an effective strategy for their elimination. He also reviewed car-lifting cases in the district and issued directions to the participants of the meeting to deploy policemen in plain clothes at various areas prone to car-lifting in to arrest the carjackers.
Bani Amin appreciated the performance of police officials during mega events in the city held this month and directed to ensure foolproof security arrangements for faithful during holy month of Ramazan. He also asked to conduct search operation before the advent of Ramazan and remain in complete co-ordination to ensure elaborate security arrangements.
The IGP directed DSP Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) and all SHOs to ensure strict patrolling at various points of the city especially outer cordon to curb car-lifting incidents. He also directed all police officials to ensure special measures for effective policing in their respective areas and devise effective strategy to combat crimes.
He also directed to establish halting points in the city for effective checking and to maintain high vigilance against the suspects. The IGP directed all SDPOs and SHOs to listen public complaints, initiate required legal action and redress them on merit without fear or favour. He said strict action will be taken against a police officer in case of any complaint of highhandedness.
Bani Amin Khan also instructed all SHOs to improve their performance to avoid any disciplinary action and said he will not spare the officers remaining unsuccessful in curbing car-theft or other incidents of serious crime in their area. "No sluggish attitude will be tolerated in this regard," he concluded.
