Taiwan stocks rose 0.78 percent on Tuesday, lifted by banks and hotels including the Regent Taipei, but LCD panel maker Chi Mei plunged again after a media report said a unnamed major flat panel maker has seen its utilisation rate fall 10 percent. Tourism and banking were among the top winners, both advancing over 1.2 percent, lifting the broader market in a rebound from its nearly three-month closing low in the previous session.
However, Chi Mei, the world's No 3 flat panel maker and the biggest in Taiwan, dropped 4.6 percent, extending its losses to nearly 12 percent in two sessions. Close rival AU Optronics gained 2.31 percent. A tier-one LCD maker has seen its utilisation rate fall 10 percent and has forced its employeees to take annual leave, the Economic Daily reported, without identifying the company.
The benchmark index finished up 66.94 points at 8,597.62.
