The rouble rebounded from a three-week low versus the dollar on Friday, reflecting a rise in the euro against the greenback, but weaker oil prices continued to limit gains by the Russian unit. The rouble firmed 0.41 percent to 28.07 against the dollar, bouncing off an earlier low of 28.23, its weakest level since late May.
The recovery came after the euro jumped to $1.43 versus the dollar from $1.42 seen at the previous day's close, on the back of expectations that a new bailout package for Greece will be agreed by euro zone members. Versus the euro, Russia's unit eased 55 percent to 40.06, sliding from the session's strongest point of 39.87. The rouble was trading 0.15 percent weaker on the day at 33.47 versus the euro-dollar basket, the central bank's gauge of the currency market.
