No doubt, father and mother together are founding stone of a happy family but the order and structure of the family is incomplete without the presence of fatherhood. It is a reality that the portrait of a happy family is imperfect without father.
Although, that a mother is a blessing for her children, love and affection of father is a source of satisfaction for them. Experts say, "Mothers almost automatically join at the child's level of play, often allowing the child to direct the play activity. In contrast, fathers are more likely to position themselves as the leader. Children need both types of play interaction: a chance to direct and the opportunity to be challenged."
They learn to behave better, exhibit positive personality traits and their level of confidence is much higher than those who deprive of father-protected arms. Children having affection of father less likely to exhibit behavioural and psychological problems.
To honor father's love, dedication and hard work to raise his family, Father's day celebrated in many countries around the world on third Sunday of every June. This year, 19 June is the International father's day. A woman Sonora Dodd, celebrated the first father's day in 1910, to admit her father's sacrifices in raising her six brothers and sisters after her mother died at childbirth. Interestingly, in America father's day is a day to give honour to grandfather, Uncle and any man having father status. In Australia and New Zealand, this day will be celebrated on 4th September.
A daughter values the relationship she has with her dad because for daddy she is always a little girl. He is a protector, shelter, defender and a role model for her. The strength of father-son relations depends on compassion and admiration. For a son, presence of fatherly love gives him confidence, motivation, responsibility and self-controls. Together they share dreams, wishes, hopes and plans. Experts say when these boys grew up; they were more likely to be good dads themselves. Fatherhood saves child from caught in the web of depression and behavioural problems. Those deprived of significant and lovable relationship with their father often develop bad habits and often get victims of drug addiction and criminal activities.
The spirit of fatherhood remains with the child all his life. Mr Zaheer lost his father when he was just fifteen years old. He still remembers a day when he was alone with his young brothers at home. His mother was breadwinner for the family of three children. At that day, the city caught in violence made it almost impossible for the mother to reach home before midnight. The boy was so scared and at that frightening moment, he fell a sleep and dreamed that his father came and said do not scared my child I am here with you.
Mr Ismail, father of 3 daughters and a son, says, "It is father's duty to teach children moral values and personal responsibilities. He should teach them to look positive aspects of life to make right decisions. Only father can help his child to adopt positive attitudes by setting rules and regulations. A good father is one who is always with his children to share their joys and sorrows."
The significance of father's influence on the life of a child is evident from the fact that children who get their father's helping aid in studies have better school performance and develop better sense of worth. Recalling her childhood days, Farzana said, "I still remember those days when my father used to play cricket with me when my brothers had refused to take me in their team. My father accompanied me in my Kitchen activities; together we made cakes, puddings and chicken nuggets. He is very strict in his rules and these rules help us to achieve our goals in life."
Sharing memories of her father, Zubaida said, "My dad taught me making round rotis and adding tea when water reached to steaming level. Still, when I make tea and bread, his way of teaching brings to my mind."
I also like to share memories of my father with all honour and respect he deserves for the hard-fought efforts he made to make our lives successful. He was a perfect blend of love, affection and devotion. My father was among those millions of immigrants who had left ancestor's land to make Pakistan their new home. In India, he belonged to a poor family. The only source of income of the family was farming. Since he was very intelligent, He went to Baroda city for further education and returned with secondary school completion certificate. It was a big success for a boy belonged to a farmer's family. However, this success made him a little rebellion from family occupation, so he decided to become a teacher.
After settling in Pakistan, he faced huge challenges of raising family of five children with limited resources but he faced the world with courage, hope and faith. Being a teacher he knew the importance of education therefore, he managed to educate his children despite his limited income. My dad always had tears whenever memories of her mother and brother pinched him. Then he had little resources to save money for travelling his hometown to meet his relatives. He sacrificed his wishes and preferred needs of his children and the welfare of his family.
Good fathering is a hard task; it involves stamina, patience and tolerance. My father faced challenges bravely. As a teacher, he was just like a father to his students, his students still remembers him and talk highly of his teaching skills even after 17 years of his death.
He disciplined his children and his students by setting rules and regulations. Honesty, bravery and loyalty are his motto of life. He motivated us to learn new skills and facing the hardship of life courageously. He taught us the value of education He often told us that respect your elders if you want to be respected. And "Father's Day is a great time to let your dad know you haven't forgotten him. Until we have kids of our own, we do not really understand how much time, effort and money our dads put into raising us."
