Taiwan stocks up

Published Updated

Taiwan stocks ended up 0.03 percent on Wednesday, as gains in Yageo was capped by losses in smartphone maker HTC amid concern of its outlook. Yageo rose 0.68 percent, stabilising from a 6.4 percent tumble in the prior session. The Taiwan regulator expressed concern over private equity fund Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co LP's buyout plan for the electronics components maker, a source told Reuters on Tuesday.
The main TAIEX index inched up 2.24 points to 8,831.45. HTC was down by the 7-percent daily limit, extending its slump in the last few days on investor concerns that demand for some products was not as strong as expected.
Acer, the world's No 2 PC vendor, advanced 0.8 percent. The company cut its 2011 tablet shipment target and expects lower notebook shipments, as it works to clear accumulated inventory. Foreign investors were net sellers on Tuesday, bringing their total selling to T$17.3 billion this month.
