Secretary to Government of Sindh, Culture Department, Abdul Aziz Uqaili has said that arrangements for the medical treatment of renowned short-story writer of Sindh Tariq Alam Abro in India had been made but time factor played an unfortunate role in this regard.
This he observed while talking to the media men at the residence of late Tariq Alam Abro Sindh University Colony, Jamshoro where he arrived to offer Fateha and condolence with the heirs of late Tariq Abro on Tuesday evening. Responding to a question, the provincial secretary said that soon after receiving the application for financial aid to late Tariq Abro, the culture department sanctioned an amount of Rs 1.5 million from the Endowment Fund and transferred the same in his account on 16th April 2011. He said that additional amount of Rs 0.5 million was also sanctioned to him by his department from the Legend Fund as financial aid for the medical treatment in India.
He further said that the department, in collaboration with Daily Dawn, had made public appeal for financial contribution for the purpose and a considerable amount was donated by people. Similarly, a summary for balance amount of Rs 0.7 million was also submitted to Chief Minister Sindh, which he approved without any hesitation however, unfortunately, time played a misfortune role in this regard.
Lauding the services rendered by late Tariq Alam Abro in the field of literature, Uqaily announced that the unpublished written material of late Abro would be published by the department. Responding to a question, he said that present government is the first to evolve a mechanism to provide immediate assistance to ailing writers, poets and artists from endowment fund.
