Government has completed 90 percent work on the multifaceted Gomal Zam Dam that would irrigate about 163,000 acres and semi-arid land of southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and South Waziristan Agency. Official sources in Irrigation Department told APP on Tuesday that the work progress on the irrigation component is only 24.5 percent and the dam, upon completion, would bring 163,000 acres land of DI Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and South Waziristan under irrigation.
He said that the dam would generate 17.4mega watts that would address the problems of power load-shedding and low voltage. It will boost up hydropower generation in Fata and protect fertile land from flood and soil erosion, besides converting most of barren land into canal-irrigated area that would generate employment opportunities for youth and bolstering income of poor segment of the society.
