Power shortfall reached to 4000MW amidst delay in payment of dues and fuel to the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), putting the consumers at the mercy of unbearable hot weather across the country. Power generation stood at 13821MW against a demand of 17771MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 3950MW during the last 24 hours.
Pepco is observing loadshedding for 9 to 12 hours in urban and over 16 hours in rural areas due to increase in pressure on load management with rise in mercury.
Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 5352MW, 1801MW, 6569MW and 99MW during last 24 hours. Supply to the KESC was recorded at 720MW. It may be noted that four IPPs have threatened to suspend operations due to delay in payment of dues . It has created a crisis like situation but the Pepco high ups are completely silent over the situation. This confusion on the part of Pepco has worried the consumers at large, who are already deprived of uninterrupted supply of electricity amidst two-percent rise in tariff each month.
