Karachi Fish Harbour security plan reviewed

A meeting to review the security of installations in the Karachi Fish Harbour was held under the chairmanship of Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Provincial Minister for Fisheries.
The meeting was attended by Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Managing Director, Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA), Cdr Mohsin Farooq Pakistan Navy, and Lieutenant Cdr Nouman, Maritime Security Agency (MSA), Haqdad Khan, Director KFHA Board, Engr Shuneed Memon, Director Admin & Finance, KFHA, Zahoor Abbasi, Director Operations, KFHA Representative of Fishermen's Co-operative Society (FCS), Representative of Trawlers Owners Association.
Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Minister Fisheries apprised the forum that the Karachi Fish Harbour is a seaport and an important vital installation besides various other important military / civil installations are situated near vicinity of the Karachi Fish Harbour whose security is directly linked with the fishermen and their boats. He urged to enhance the maximum security of vital installations in wake of terrorist activities.
It was observed that all small boats should be registered with the KFHA in order to have their complete record. After detailed discussion it was decided that all small boats including passenger boats which operates from the Karachi Fish Harbour should be registered with a deadline of 31 July 2011, thereafter the KFHA would not allow them to operate. Similarly, KFHA would also register chowkidars of boats.
For the effective security of the harbour, the KFHA would request the Naval Headquarters to deploy Pak Marines to control the entry and exit gates of the Karachi Fish Harbour whereas through another letter to Director General Rangers Sindh, the KFHA request to establish pickets area of Kala Pani within the Karachi Fish Harbour. Whereas Pakistan Navy would establish picket in seawater to check all types of outgoing and incoming boats to Karachi Fish Harbour.
Representative of Pakistan Navy assured that intelligence of the harbour would be increased upto required level. In the second phase, all harbour users would be registered and allow entry inside the harbour on showing of entry permit duly issued by the KFHA. For further security of the harbour installation, Pakistan Navy would submit proposal which will include rising of boundary wall, installation of security system etc which shall be forwarded to the Government of Sindh for providing the funds, in this regard.-PR
